The “Monteverdi” Conservatory

The “Claudio Monteverdi” music conservatory, the Higher Institute for Musical Education / Higher Institute for Musical Studies of the Province of Bolzano.

As a result of the long-awaited reform of conservatories introduced by Law no. 508 of 1999, the “Claudio Monteverdi” became a Higher Institute for Musical Studies or Higher Institute for Artistic and Musical Training. In 2006, under the special powers contained in the statute governing the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the state delegated its own administrative responsibilities to the province and, as of academic year 2005/2006, the first experimental second level academic courses, equivalent to a university degree, were introduced. The following year saw the introduction of first level academic courses, first of an experimental nature, then becoming official as of 2010-11. With the regularisation of the first level academic courses, places on the previous courses are now limited and since then a genuinely new phase has begun for the “Monteverdi”.
